Happening Habitat

The Purpose of Happening Habitat is to examine North Brother Island and other environmental aspects of the South Bronx community. We hope to promote the restoration of North Brother Island, raise awareness about the natural enviornment, and help build an overall appreciation and respect for nature. Our blog is updated weekly and is comprised of both visual and written material that is meant to support environmental stewardship. We hope that you find our blog usefull and gain a new persepective on your relationship with nature.

Birds of North and South Brother Island

  • Black_crowned_night_heron
    To our surprise, these exotic birds live on New York City's own North and South Brother Islands, located in The Bronx. This is the biggest heron/egret nesting colony in the Northeast of the U.S.
